Lady Bobcats Close Basketball Season with Heart in Playoff Battle.

The Lady Bobcats’ season came to a close Tuesday night at Nolan Catholic High School, where Benbrook faced a sharp-shooting Krum squad in the bi-district round of the 4A Division II UIL Girls Basketball State Championships.

Krum set the tone early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead and knocking down three-point shots in the opening quarter. The Lady Bobcats first points came from McKinzie Brookshier midway through the first, but Krum’s pace and full-court pressure proved difficult to break without turnovers at times for Benbrook. The Lady Bobcats trailed Krum 23-3 after one and 45-7 at halftime.

To their credit, Benbrook never stopped competing.

Grace Klaerner opened the second half with a steal and layup. Juliana Velasquez converted an and one in the third. Brookshier battled inside all night and finished with a team-high seven points. Klaerner and Velasquez each added five, Mareah Sainz scored two, and Giuliana Lucero added one.

Krum’s offense continued to click, and the final score settled at 73-20, ending Benbrook’s playoff run and closing the season at 12-20.

While the scoreboard did not tilt their way, the Lady Bobcats showed resilience from start to finish. Credit goes to Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach Leta Lofton, assistant coaches Marie Williams and Lindsay Nickell, and the parents, players, and everyone who carried Bobcat pride all season.

For the seniors, it was the final chapter in a Benbrook uniform. For everyone else remaining and for those to continue donning the Lady Bobcats uniform, it is fuel for what’s around the corner next year.
