Higher Gas Bills After Winter Storm?

If your latest natural gas bill looks higher than usual, you are not alone.

Following Winter Storm Fern, which brought heavy snow, ice, and days of record low temperatures across Tarrant County from late January, many households used more natural gas than normal. Heating systems, water heaters, fireplaces, and other gas appliances had to work overtime to keep homes warm. That increased usage can result in a higher bill.

Atmos Energy, working with the City of Benbrook, is reminding customers that options are available to help manage costs.

Residents can enroll in Budget Billing to make monthly bills more predictable. Installment plans are also available to spread payments over time. For those who qualify, local energy assistance agencies may provide financial help. More information about these programs is available at https://atmosenergy.com/assistance.

If you are unsure how your bill is calculated, Atmos offers tools to break it down. Customers can review detailed explanations at https://atmosenergy.com/mybill and use the Bill Comparison tool in their online account to compare current and past usage.

Several factors affect your total bill, including the amount of gas used, the market price of natural gas, delivery charges, and applicable taxes and fees.

Atmos Energy also encourages residents to stay alert. If you notice unusual or unexpected usage and suspect a gas leak, leave the area immediately and call 911. From a safe location, you can also contact Atmos Energyโ€™s 24-hour emergency line at 866.322.8667.

For general customer service questions, the Atmos Energy Customer Contact Center is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 888.286.6700.

As winter weather fades, many families are now reviewing their utility bills. Knowing what drove the increase and what support is available can help Benbrook residents plan ahead and stay on steady footing.
