Heavy Rain, Flooding Threat Headed for Benbrook.

After weeks of mostly hot, dry weather, Benbrook could be in for a dramatic change beginning Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth is forecasting widespread showers and thunderstorms across North and Central Texas from Wednesday through Friday, with 2 to 5 inches of rain expected across the region and locally higher amounts possible.

More importantly for Benbrook, Tarrant County is under a Flood Watch from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. Forecasters say repeated rounds of heavy rain could overwhelm low-lying and flood-prone areas, including creeks, streams and roadways.

Rain chances begin increasing Wednesday afternoon, but the heavier weather is expected Wednesday night into Thursday. Storms and rain remain in the forecast Friday, when temperatures are expected to drop considerably from the mid-90s earlier in the week.

For Benbrook residents, this is a good time to watch the forecast, clear anything around the house that could block drainage, and plan extra travel time later this week.

And the most important reminder: if water begins covering local streets, do not try to drive through a flooded roadway.
