Fatal I-20 Crash Near Aledo Tied to Road Hazard.

A stretch of Interstate 20 west of Benbrook turned tragic this week after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash near Aledo, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Investigators say the rider struck a pothole along westbound I-20, leading to the fatal accident. The area near FM 1187 had already drawn concern from drivers, who described the roadway damage as a known issue.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Department of Transportation announced plans to close the left lane of westbound I-20 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pavement repairs. The crash occurred later that same night.

For many in the area, the timing is difficult to ignore. A hazard that drivers had been navigating for days is now at the center of a deadly incident.

As repairs progress, the loss serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly road conditions can become dangerous. For those traveling through the I-20 corridor, slowing down and staying alert may be the simplest way to stay safe.
