The Benbrook Bobcats rolled into Ponder, TX, last night, looking to gain some early season momentum as they took on the Ponder Lions for the first regular-season game of the 2017 season.
The Bobcats exchanged scoring opportunities with the Lions in the first half but trailed 19-14 at halftime. That’s when the Bobcats’ resilience and determination kicked into high gear. Led by a revamped defensive strategy and explosive plays on offense, Benbrook came out of the locker room with renewed energy, ready to make a statement. Despite a late push by the Lions, the Bobcats held firm for a 28-19 victory.
Head Coach Slater praised the team’s second-half adjustments and mental toughness. “We challenged them at halftime to step up and play to their potential, and they delivered,” he said. “This was a great way to start the season, but we’ve got a lot of work ahead.”
With the 28-19 victory in the books, the Bobcats will return to practice next week to build on their early-season success.
