For Whitney Hughes, a run for Benbrook City Council is about more than seeking a seat at City Hall. It is a chance to give back to the community that helped shape her.
Hughes, a candidate for Place 6, recently shared a childhood photo of herself standing at a microphone, reflecting on how far life has taken her and the possibilities she could not have imagined as a little girl.
“The City of Benbrook, Texas, is my home,” Hughes wrote. “Running for City Council is giving back to a community that poured into me as a child.”
Her post paired that childhood memory with a more recent image of Hughes speaking before the Benbrook City Council, connecting where she started with where she hopes to serve.
“I’ve been looking at these pictures of myself as a little girl and wishing I could tell her all the amazing possibilities life has to offer,” she wrote.
Now, Hughes is looking ahead, saying she is “excited for the future” as she campaigns for the Place 6 seat.
For a hometown candidate, the two photos tell a simple story: a little girl who grew up in Benbrook now hopes to help shape the community that raised her.
