The countdown to Thanksgiving in Benbrook has begun, and so has the training. The Benbrook Fitness Collective is inviting residents to lace up for a five-week program designed to prepare runners and walkers for the annual Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot.
Sessions take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 a.m., rotating between the YMCA in Benbrook and the Art Cowsen Trailhead. The schedule gradually builds stamina with intervals of running and walking, making it perfect for beginners or those easing back into a fitness routine.
Week one begins with one-minute runs, followed by two-minute walks, repeated eight times. By week five, participants will be able to run for eight minutes at a time, interspersed with shorter walking breaks.
Organizers emphasize that no prior experience is requiredโjust bring comfortable shoes, water, and a willingness to try. Miss a session? Simply follow the plan on your own and rejoin the group later. The goal is steady progress and celebrating together at either the 5K or K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning.
