Benbrook runners, walkers, and anyone looking for a new challenge have the perfect chance to lace up and prepare for one of Fort Worth’s biggest holiday traditions — the YMCA Turkey Trot.
A 10-week training program has just launched on the Trinity Trails, designed to help beginners and returning runners build the stamina needed to complete either the 5k or 8k race on Thanksgiving morning.
The group meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, though anyone who misses a day is encouraged to keep up the schedule on their own and rejoin at the next session. Training starts with short intervals of running and walking, gradually increasing distance and endurance each week. By the final week, participants will be ready for a continuous 30-minute run before lining up for the official Turkey Trot.
The program requires no prior experience — just a good pair of shoes, water, and the willingness to stick with it. The spirit is about moving together, pushing limits at a steady pace, and crossing the finish line as a community.
