Benbrook Football Leadership Council Focuses on Resilience and Mental Toughness.

Long before Friday night lights return, the work of building a football team is already happening in quieter rooms.

For Benbrook Football, Week 4 of the Bobcat Leadership Council centered on Chapters 9 and 10 of the team’s 2026 book study, Win In The Dark, with players digging into lessons on adversity, resilience, and mental toughness.

One chapter, “Forged in the Fire,” challenged athletes to see pressure and hardship as part of growth rather than something to avoid. Another chapter, “OBE’d,” short for “Overcome By Event,” focused on learning how to move on quickly after mistakes and not let one bad moment define the next play.

The conversations went beyond football. Players discussed how difficult moments shape character, how adversity can expose habits and preparation, and how mentally strong teams learn to reset instead of unravel.

The theme that echoed throughout the session was simple: “Champions are built when nobody is watching.”

Not just building better athletes, but building young men who know how to handle pressure, setbacks, and life when things do not go according to plan.
