Benbrook Brush Pickup Confusion Frustrates Residents.

If you’ve driven through Benbrook lately, you’ve probably noticed the same thing many residents have: piles of tree limbs sitting curbside for weeks, sometimes even longer. And you’re not imagining it.

Frustrated neighbors have turned to social media and phone calls, trying to figure out what’s going on with brush pickup. Some were told their branches were too long, others were informed they needed to be bundled and under 50 pounds. There are pink slips showing up on curbs. One resident was even told their address didn’t qualify for brush pickup at all, only to see the limbs disappear within an hour of a second phone call.

The confusion appears to come down to a few factors: Republic Services, the city’s waste contractor, reportedly only has one grapple truck serving all of Benbrook. Combine that with rising demand, and it’s easy to see how things get backed up. Some residents are being told they need to cut their branches down to 3-foot bundles, others say they’ve always had bulk pickup without restrictions.

City staff, particularly Cecelia with the City of Benbrook, has been helpful when contacted directly. Several residents report better results after speaking with her, though delays are still common.

The bigger issue? Consistency and clarity. Many residents are calling for more trucks or even a contract reevaluation. As the city grows and yards fill with more storm debris and pruning piles, the current system seems to be struggling to keep up.

For now, if you have brush that needs picking up, the best move is to call the City of Benbrook at 817-249-3000. Have your address ready, and be patient but persistent.
