Benbrook Bobcats Take the Field for Preseason Scrimmage.

The Benbrook Bobcats hit the road today to face the Peaster Greyhounds in a preseason scrimmage, looking to build on last week’s test against the Van Alstyne Panthers.

Last Friday, the Bobcats faced a tough Van Alstyne squad, ranked 367th by MaxPreps, and the gap in experience was evident.

Offensively, early dropped passes slowed the team, but senior quarterback Brennan Barton kept the unit calm and methodical, guiding the young roster down the field before time ran out. Defensively, the Bobcats held their ground, though fundamentals like tackling and positioning will need attention.

Coach Cody Slater said, “I’m proud of the team and how they performed, seeing this is the first varsity action for quite a few of them on both sides of the ball. Brennan and Carlos Harris are leading the way as upperclassmen should, which will make for an exciting season. But, of course, time will tell the story as we regroup and aim to make adjustments for our scrimmage against Peaster.”

Today’s scrimmage against Peaster at 7 pm is another opportunity for the Bobcats to gain experience and refine their play ahead of the season opener against Castleberry on August 29th at 7 pm at Clark Stadium FWISD.
