BENBROOK, TX — The North Texas cycling community is grieving the loss of 68-year-old Chuck Henson, a passionate cyclist and retired Fort Worth ISD teacher, who was struck and killed during a group ride early Saturday morning.
Henson, riding with nine others, was hit when a car turning left from West Vickery Boulevard onto Benbrook Road crossed into their path around 7:24 a.m. The collision proved fatal, with Henson succumbing to his injuries at the scene.
The driver, who remained at the scene, expressed deep remorse, claiming she hadn’t seen the cyclists. Benbrook police are investigating and suggested the sun’s position may have impaired her vision. No arrests have been made, though she may face a citation for an unsafe left turn.
