Drivers in and around Benbrook should plan for changes on major toll roads this afternoon as winter weather approaches North Texas.
In coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation, operators of the DFW TEXpress lanes announced that all managed toll lanes will begin closing at 1 PM. The move is a precaution tied to forecasts calling for frozen precipitation across the region.
This closure has become standard practice following the deadly 2021 pileup on Interstate 35, when icy conditions led to widespread crashes. Since then, TxDOT and roadway partners have taken a more proactive approach, shutting down toll lanes early to reduce risk and allow maintenance crews to safely prepare roadways.
Officials say crews will continue monitoring conditions as the storm moves through and will begin winter maintenance operations to reopen lanes once it is safe to do so.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel, slow down if they must be on the roads, and check current conditions before heading out.
Updates on lane status and road conditions can be found through TxDOT channels and local traffic resources as the weather develops.
