Benbrook residents with pets or those looking to adopt should take note—Fort Worth Animal Care & Control (FWACC) has temporarily shut down all animal intakes and public access at its shelters following an outbreak of Canine Distemper Virus (CDV).
To contain the virus and protect the animals in their care, FWACC has suspended volunteer opportunities and, after veterinary consultation, made the difficult decision to euthanize several infected dogs.
Animal Control Officers will continue responding to emergency cases involving dangerous, sick, or injured animals. However, the community is asked to hold onto found animals for at least four days if possible to reduce shelter intake during this crisis.
For guidance on reporting strays, visit fortworthtexas.gov/animals. For concerns or questions, contact FWACC at 817-392-1234.
