For generations of Benbrook families, the Robot Slide was more than playground equipment. It was a landmark, a meeting place, and the backdrop for countless childhood memories.
Now, local artist Vivian Graham is helping preserve that piece of Benbrook history one brushstroke at a time.
Graham recently shared a progress update on a large acrylic painting inspired by the iconic Robot Slide that once stood at the beloved Robot and Castle Parks. The 24-by-36-inch canvas captures the familiar face and towering slides that many residents still remember fondly.
“It’s starting to really pop, and I’m excited,” Graham said while sharing the latest look at the work in progress.
Though the parks themselves are gone, the memories remain. Graham’s painting serves as a tribute to the generations of children who climbed, slid, played, and made memories beneath the watchful eyes of the city’s most recognizable playground robot.
The painting will be available for purchase once completed. Residents can follow the project’s progress and learn more by visiting Vivian Graham’s Facebook Page.
