First-Year Leader Makes Lasting Impact at Benbrook.

Success in sports is easy to measure on a scoreboard. The deeper impact usually happens long before game day.

For Benbrook High School softball, Coach Robbie Jerkins is finishing his first season as head coach with both. In his first year leading the program, he guided the Lady Bobcats to a district championship, but those around the team say his influence reaches far beyond wins and losses.

Players and families point to the way he leads with character first. On the field, he teaches the game. Off the field, he sets the standard for what it looks like to be both a strong athlete and a strong person.

Jerkins also serves as a math teacher on campus, giving him another layer of connection with his players. He pushes them academically, encourages them to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible, and reminds them that growth is bigger than softball.

That kind of leadership does not go unnoticed. His time, consistency, and care for both players and their families have helped shape the program’s culture in a short time.

A district title is a strong first chapter, but the bigger story is the example being set every day.
