A group of Western Hills High School students turned a week of academic competition into a moment worth celebrating.
At the recent UIL Academic District Meet, 16 students represented the school across 43 events, with several earning top finishes and a few moving on to the next level. Students who placed in the top three will compete at Regionals on April 22, continuing a run that reflects both preparation and persistence.
Leading the way, DaiโJuan Williams placed first in Prose and fifth in Current Events. Vianet Garcia earned third in Ready Writing, while Coby Turner placed third in Computer Science and helped secure a second-place team finish. Christian Ross and Isabel Alcala also contributed to the teamโs second-place Computer Science result.
Other students competed across a range of events, including Diego Fuentes, who placed in both News Writing and Headline Writing, along with Kaylee Gallardo, Jbria Madden, Addison Dudley, Mark Angel, Tiassa Scott, Dexter Hill, Ana Cedillo, Francis Hickey, Michel Trejo, and Sophia Ellison.
Behind the scenes, coaches Sanks, Cook, Ryon-Child, Lagunas, Pennington, and Maas helped guide the group through weeks of preparation.
Now, attention turns to Regionals, where Western Hills students will carry both momentum and the support of their school community with them.
