Western Hills Artists Earn Top Honors at UIL VASE.

Western Hills High School students brought home major honors from the UIL Visual Arts Scholastic Event held Saturday at Timberview High School in Mansfield.

Under the guidance of art teachers Carol Pryor and Fairle LaForge, several Cougars earned top medals for their original work across multiple media.

Among the seniors recognized were Karen Paloma for her clay piece Serpent Coil Vase, Zahra Rezai for Guardian Treasure Vase, Josselyn Ramirez for her acrylic painting Memories, Hector Torres for his welded sculpture A Western Dream, Celestiana Valles for her three-dimensional piece Pomegranate of Self, and Isabella Woods Brooks, whose mixed media works Bugs and Plants both received top medals.

Sophomore Brisa Martinez also earned honors for her watercolor piece Whispers of Springtime.

For a school known for its strong spirit, this moment belonged to the art room. The students’ creativity, discipline, and craftsmanship stood out among regional competitors.

At Western Hills, excellence is not limited to the field or the court. It is alive on canvas, in clay, and in steel.
