A little time can make a lasting difference, and the Benbrook Community Center YMCA is reminding residents just how powerful mentorship can be.
According to the Y, young people with a mentor are significantly less likely to skip school, a simple statistic that points to something deeper. When a caring adult shows up consistently, it gives students confidence, stability, and a sense that someone believes in them.
That impact works both ways. Mentors often discover a renewed sense of purpose through the relationships they build. Sharing life experiences, listening, and being present do more than support youth. It strengthens mental well-being and reminds adults that what they give truly matters.
January is National Mentoring Month, and the Benbrook Community Center YMCA is encouraging community members to learn more about getting involved through its Reach and Rise Mentoring program.
