After a gut-wrenching 53-51 home loss to Southwest Lady Raiders earlier in the week, the Lady Bobcats had little time to sit with disappointment.

Their first district loss at home left fans wondering how the team would respond heading into a familiar and emotional matchup against cross-town rival Western Hills Lady Cougars. They responded with clarity and control.

Thursday night at Billingsley Field House, the Lady Bobcats took the floor, determined to reset the tone. Despite entering the game at 5-12 on the season, they wasted no time asserting themselves against the Lady Cougars, who came in at 1-12 on the season. Rivalry games often bring unpredictability, but this one quickly tilted in Benbrookโ€™s favor.

Strong team defense set the pace early, and by halftime the Lady Bobcats held a 22-12 lead. The third quarter put the game firmly out of reach. Key shooting from Grace Klaerner and Giuliana Lucero, paired with disciplined defense, helped stretch the lead to 37 to 16 by the end of the quarter.

Sophomore guard Giuliana Lucero (#5) sets up the Lady Bobcats’ offense early in the 4th quarter of the Lady Bobcats versus Lady Cougars Thursday night matchup.

Western Hills continued to compete, but Benbrook stayed steady on both ends of the court and closed the night with a convincing 45 to 23 win.

The victory moves the Lady Bobcats to 6-12 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Lady Cougars now sit at 1-13 and 0-2 in the district. Both teams head into the Christmas break, with Western Hills returning in early January and the Lady Bobcats preparing for tournament play just days after the holiday.

Benbrook wishes both squads a restful and well-deserved Christmas break.
