You may have noticed something missing if you’ve driven down 377 south of Don Melquia’s lately.
The old Park Ridge Stables are gone, demolished without much notice. Once a quiet piece of Benbrook’s past near Boaz Park, the property had more recently seen signs of wear and overnight use. Now it’s a blank slate.
Word around town is mixed. Some say DR Horton purchased the land, possibly pointing to new housing. Others have heard Fort Worth Police may have claimed the property, while a few mention plans for apartments.
Add to that the recent teardown of the small fenced animal spot on Winscott — another longtime fixture now gone — and the trend is hard to ignore. Benbrook is changing, and quite quickly.
Residents are hoping that whatever comes next keeps some sense of history and charm. Because once these places are gone, they take more than just old wood and fences with them. They take stories, memories, and a little bit of what made Benbrook, Benbrook.
