The Boaz family was one of the most prominent families in southwest Fort Worth and Benbrook in the late 19th century.
Peter Boaz and their family came from Kentucky in the early 1870s and eventually settled in Benbrook in 1878. Peter and his wife, Martha, had nine children, including Hiram Boaz, who would become the president of Texas Wesleyan University (then known as Polytechnic College) and Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas.
After patriarch Peter passed away, Widow Boaz eventually married James M. Benbrook, the cityโs namesake. Peterโs son Z. Boaz donated 130+ acres of land to the City of Fort Worth in 1928 for use as a public park.
