A group of Western Hills High School track athletes returned from the Fossil Ridge Panther Relays with something every competitor hopes for: Personal bests.

Competing on February 26, the Cougar boys and girls track teams delivered a strong showing at the meet, combining effort and improvement to record ten new personal records across several events.

One of the biggest improvements came from Joโ€™zaiyah Russell, who shaved seven seconds off his time in the 400 meter dash. Vivian Maina also made a major leap forward, cutting ten seconds from her 800 meter time while also setting a personal best in the 1600 meter run.

Several other Cougars added their names to the list of personal records. Darius Roberson improved in both the long jump and the 100 meter dash, while Corey Brown set a new best in the 100 meter. Victor Lewis posted new marks in the 800 and 1600 meter runs.

In the field events, Ethen Morgan set new personal records in both shot put and discus. Layla James and Saโ€™Mya Walker each improved in shot put. Kayla Roberts recorded personal bests in both shot put and discus. Alex Richmond cleared a new personal mark in the high jump.

For the Cougars, the meet was less about medals and more about progress. Each new personal record marks the kind of steady improvement that teams build on throughout the season, and Western Hills athletes showed they are moving in the right direction.
