The Western Hills High School boys soccer season is heading toward its final whistle, and one Cougar team is closing it out with a championship.

Earlier this week, varsity traveled to Dunbar High School to finish a weather-delayed match. Western Hills built a 2-0 lead by halftime, but Dunbar rallied to tie the match and force a penalty kick shootout. The Wildcats claimed the shootout win, ending the Cougarsโ€™ postseason hopes.

The following evening, Western Hills returned home for Senior Night against Diamond Hill Jarvis. After allowing an early goal, the Cougars battled to keep the match close before a late score secured a 2-0 win for Diamond Hill Jarvis.

The junior varsity squad delivered the nightโ€™s biggest moment. After holding Diamond Hill Jarvis scoreless through halftime and with storms approaching, the match moved to a penalty kick shootout. Goalkeeper Alexis Zepeda stepped up with a key save on the Eaglesโ€™ fourth attempt, helping secure a 3-2 victory.

The win clinched the District 7 4A championship for the JV Cougars, capping a strong season for the programโ€™s younger players.

As the teams head into their final matchups of the year, the varsity squad holds an overall record of 8-13 and a 4-9 mark in district play. The JV team finishes with an impressive 14-5 record and a 10-1 district run.

Western Hills will close the season Friday night at Southwest High School. Junior varsity is scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 8:00 p.m.
