Western Hills Cadets Mark 10 Years at Oktoberfest.

For the 10th year, Western Hills High School AFJROTC cadets helped open Corporate Night at Fort Worth Oktoberfest, continuing a tradition that has become familiar to the Cougar program.

The cadets presented the American and German Colors during both countries’ national anthems at Trinity Park, then returned the following evening for the festival’s public opening ceremonies.

Among this year’s cadets was C/SSgt Destin Demars, a newcomer to the program who had never served on a Color Guard. After training during lunch and after school, Demars stepped into the role of Color Guard Commander for the event.

Joining him were C/Capt Devonne Gould, Director of Operations; C/Capt Kunaphereak Peng, Group Executive Officer; and C/1Lt Parker Hamilton, Deputy Director of Operations.

The cadets also met Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and Councilmember Michael Crain during the festivities.

Ten years of invitations say plenty about the tradition WHHS cadets have built at Oktoberfest. This year, a first-time Color Guard commander added his own chapter to it.
