Friday night, November 7, the Texas Department of Transportation held a candlelight ceremony to remember those who have lost their lives in crashes and to recognize a sobering milestone: 25 years since the last day without a traffic-related death in Texas.
The last deathless day on Texas roads was November 7, 2000. Since then, more than 91,000 lives have been lost, according to TxDOT. The agency continues its End the Streak TX campaign, calling on every driver to help make Texas roads safer through kindness, patience, and responsible driving.
The candlelight event served as both a remembrance and a renewed call to action, reminding Texans that every safe choice behind the wheel can save lives.
