Tacos and Teamwork Fuel STAAR Week at Western Hills.

At Western Hills High School, STAAR testing week came with more than just pencils and quiet classrooms. It came with tacos, teamwork, and a reminder of what community can look like in action.

Led by Cougar Pride Alliance and Patty Pressley, the “Staar Testing Tacos” effort wrapped up its second day with another strong showing. Even with fewer volunteers, the operation ran smoothly, helped in part by students who now knew exactly what they were lining up for.

Behind the scenes, support from Frankie Smith and Western Hills Church of Christ made it all possible. The church opened its Fellowship Hall for cooking and prep, creating a space where volunteers could serve students in a practical and meaningful way.

By the end of the day, the food was gone, the space was cleaned, and even the leftovers had a purpose. More than anything, the effort reflected a simple idea. When a community shows up, even small acts like a shared meal can make a long testing week feel a little lighter.
