Voters in Senate District 9 will return to the polls soon, as the race between Fort Worth Democrat Taylor Rehmet and Southlake Republican Leigh Wambsganss heads to a special runoff on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The unusual Saturday date is the earliest allowed under state law. It keeps the contest well ahead of the March 3 party primaries, where both candidates will appear again as they seek a full term on the November ballot.
Early voting for the runoff will take place from Wednesday, January 21, through Tuesday, January 27.
The election fills the unexpired term previously held by Senator Kelly Hancock. For residents of Benbrook and across District 9, the runoff shapes representation at the State Capitol for the coming year. It carries weight as both candidates prepare for another round on the primary ballot.
