Benbrook residents are being urged to stay vigilant following reports of an online scammer posing as a local community member.
A fake profile under the name “Jessica Jason” has recently been flagged for posting across various neighborhood Facebook groups, claiming personal emergencies, selling fruit, eggs, and promoting fake yard sales.
Community members identified several red flags tied to the account. These include minimal profile photos (often blurry), generic or emotional content resharing, recent group join dates, and mismatched gender-to-name details. Other giveaways include a suspicious friends list filled with unfamiliar or foreign names, vague employment listings, and an overuse of phrases like โPM for more infoโ or the @everyone tag.
Most concerning, these scammers often turn off comments to prevent others from warning potential victims. They rely on emotional appealsโespecially made-up stories involving vet bills, duct cleaning, or car detailingโto gain sympathy and manipulate quick transactions.
Benbrook police and community moderators encourage residents to report suspicious profiles, avoid sending money before physically receiving items, and share warnings when encountering these scams.
If you spot something suspicious or have additional information, email news@benbrooklife.com or contact the Benbrook Police Department. Stay sharp, Benbrook.
