Residents Urged to Keep Pets Safe in Extreme Heat.

The Texas heat has finally arrived in full force, and Benbrook is feeling it.

With temperatures climbing fast and heat advisories in effect, it’s more important than ever to protect the ones who can’t speak up: our pets.

Dogs, cats, and other outdoor animals are at serious risk in this kind of heat. Shade and cool, fresh water aren’t optional. They’re lifesaving. Concrete, wooden decks, and doghouses trap heat and can quickly become hazardous. Even short chains or crates offer no protection from the sun.

And let’s be clear: never leave pets in a hot car. Not even for a quick errand. If the pavement burns your feet, it’s doing the same to theirs.

This is a matter of basic care and common sense. Be thoughtful. Plan ahead, and if you see a pet in distress, say something. Their safety depends on our actions.
