The Lady Cougars are finding their rhythm early this softball season.
Last Tuesday night, Western Hills traveled to 6A MacArthur High School in Irving for their second non-district game and left little doubt about their direction. After three innings, the score sat at a close 2-1 with strong pitching and steady defense setting the tone.
Then the fourth inning changed everything.
The Lady Cougars broke the game open with seven runs, stretching the lead to 9-1. MacArthur answered with one run, but the momentum had already shifted.
The highlight came when Isabela Gonzales sent a four-run home run over the fence, the teamโs first of the 2026 season. It capped a standout night for Gonzales, who finished 3 for 4 with six RBIs and three runs scored, earning Player of the Game honors.
Addison Dudley delivered a complete performance, going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and four RBIs, while also throwing five innings with no earned runs, allowing just one hit and striking out 10. Aleah Gonzalez and Vivian Hernandez added multiple hits and helped keep pressure on the bases.
The Lady Cougars closed out a 13-2 run-rule win in five innings. Early season or not, this group looks locked in.
