Western Hills girls’ soccer is having a year that feels bigger than the scoreboard.
For the first time in more than nine years, the program is fielding three teams. Varsity, JV1, and JV2 are all competing, with JV2 taking on larger 5A programs such as Paschal, Arlington Heights, South Hills, and Northside.
The Lady Cougars are the only 4A school in the district maintaining a JV2 squad. Sixty-two athletes now make up the program, a sign of steady growth and real momentum.
The season did not start easily.
After a 1-8 preseason stretch, the Lady Cougars found their rhythm in district play. They closed out the first round in second place with a 5-1-1 record and wins over YWLA, Carter Riverside, Dunbar, Diamond Hill, and Southwest.
Offensively, Samantha Jupiter leads the charge with 24 goals and 2 assists. Marie Betetta has added 8 goals and 5 assists, serving as both playmaker and steady presence in the midfield.
On defense, Chloe Parten, Daisy Daniels, and Denisse Ceron have anchored the back line, giving opponents little room to breathe.
Team captains Jaquelin Valandran, Michelle Vega, and Jocelyn Nava continue to set the tone across the field.
The success carries into the classroom. Of the 62 players in the program, 29 earned A or AB Honor Roll recognition during the fourth six-week grading period.
Benbrook families have several chances to show support.
- Women in Sports Night is set for February 27, 2026, with a group photo on the field at 7:15 pm.
- Teacher Appreciation Night follows on March 6, 2026, with recognition at 6:00 pm.
- Senior Night will be held on March 13, 2026, with a ceremony at 7:15 pm between JV1 and Varsity.
Round two of district play is underway, and playoff hopes are very real. In a season already marked by growth and grit, the Lady Cougars are giving Cougar Nation plenty to cheer about.
