The Benbrook Lady Bobcats returned home Tuesday night with five straight district wins behind them and one number within reach: 20.
They did not waste much time getting there.
Benbrook swept Young Women’s Leadership Academy in straight sets, 25-13, 25-7 and 25-11, improving to 20-13 overall and closing the first round of district play at 6-1.
The Lady Bobcats found openings early and took advantage in the first set for a 25-13 win.
YWLA responded by jumping ahead 7-2 in the second, but that lead disappeared quickly. Benbrook pulled even at 7-7, then reeled off the next 18 points to take the set 25-7.
With Samantha Lindsey, Caroline Hayes and Vayle Tungate helping set the pace and the Bobcat student section providing plenty of noise, Benbrook finished the sweep with a 25-11 third set.
Now comes a rematch with some unfinished business.
Benbrook opens the second half of district play Friday at home against Southwest, the only team to beat the Lady Bobcats during the first round. Southwest took their first meeting in a tight five-set match.
First serve is at 6 p.m. Friday at Benbrook Middle-High School.
