The 4th of July may be a time of celebration for us, but it’s one of the most stressful nights of the year for our pets.
Every year, Benbrook sees a spike in lost dogs spooked by fireworks. A collar alone isn’t enough. Make sure your pet’s ID tag includes your current phone number, and double-check that it’s securely attached.
Cats aren’t immune either. For their safety, keep them inside all day and night. Unfortunately, there have been reports in years past of bad actors using fireworks to harm cats. It’s heartbreaking and preventable.
For both dogs and cats, keep windows shut and doors closed. If your dog needs a bathroom break, take them out on a leash—even in your own backyard. Fear can drive them to jump fences they’d normally never attempt.
Let’s look out for the animals who can’t protect themselves.
