They look like something out of a sci-fi movie, but hammerhead worms are very real and making an appearance across Texas, including right here in Benbrook.
These flat, ribbon-like invaders are more than just creepy. They secrete a toxin and can regenerate if smashed, which means trying to squish one just makes things worse.
If you spot one, experts recommend using gloves or a stick to carefully place it in a sealed plastic bag with salt, vinegar, or rubbing alcohol to safely dispose of it.
