As development continues to push west in Tarrant County, some Benbrook residents are raising concerns about a quieter but growing danger along Ranch to Market Road 2871.

Increased traffic tied to new construction near Interstate 20 is colliding with long-established wildlife paths, and the results are becoming hard to ignore.

With that growth has come a noticeable increase in deer being struck by vehicles. Along a roughly mile-and-a-half stretch of RM 2871, several deer carcasses have been spotted in various stages of decay residents and passersbys, which is both troubling and dangerous.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, residents can request wildlife signage through its website. The state maintains RM 2871, while the City of Benbrook notes that the surrounding land falls under county jurisdiction.

Residents are encouraging action, such as installing deer-crossing signs and possibly reducing speed limits in high-risk areas.
