FWISD Buys Back 15 Acres Near Benbrook, Stirring Talk of a Future School.

Fort Worth ISD has quietly made a move that has many Benbrook residents paying attention.

During its December 9 board meeting, FWISD approved the repurchase of roughly 15 acres near Benbrook at 1901 RM Road 2871.

The vote took place in Executive Session, which means there was no public discussion of what the land may eventually become. That silence has naturally fueled questions about whether a future school could be in the works.

The location matters. The property sits in a growing part of the district’s west side and directly serves the Benbrook community, which does not operate its own school district and relies entirely on FWISD schools. As development continues along RM 2871 and nearby corridors, the need for additional campuses has become a recurring topic.

District officials have not said whether the land is being held for a future high school, another instructional campus, or long-term expansion. What is clear is that the purchase fits into FWISD’s broader strategy.

While the district continues to consolidate or sell underused properties in other areas due to declining enrollment, it is also securing land in pockets where student growth is expected.

An aerial view of the property is available. Residents interested in the official board action can review meeting agendas, videos, and minutes through the FWISD board portal.

For now, the land represents possibility more than certainty. But in a growing area like Benbrook, even a quiet land purchase can say a lot about what may be coming next.
