North Texas is finally getting some much-needed rain, but this is one of those times when too much of a good thing can quickly become a problem.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for Tarrant County, including the Benbrook and Fort Worth area, through 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, according to the latest National Weather Service update. The watch was originally scheduled to expire Thursday afternoon but has since been extended.
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are moving through the region. Near Benbrook, the National Weather Service says 1 to 2 inches of additional rain could fall Thursday, with more showers and storms possible Thursday night and Friday.
The biggest concern is heavy rain falling repeatedly over the same areas, which can lead to flooding along streets, low-water crossings and places with poor drainage.
For Benbrook drivers, the advice is simple: do not drive onto a flooded roadway. Water covering a familiar street can be deeper or moving faster than it appears.
Watch conditions before heading out, especially if your usual route includes low-lying roads.
