Benbrook residents have reported a significant emergency response at Benbrook Lake just before 6 PM this evening in search of a missing kayaker.

Multiple emergency vehicles and search-and-rescue boats have been seen at the scene, but officials have not yet confirmed the details of the incident. A local resident from Benbrook shared on Facebook that the missing kayaker went under the water and did not resurface. Authorities have located the kayak and paddle but have not yet found the person.

While unconfirmed, it is suspected that the individual may have drowned as search efforts continue. Search and rescue operations are expected to pause at dusk and resume tomorrow morning with the first light of day.

Around 4 p.m. on Sunday, game wardens reported recovering the body of a 39-year-old man from the middle of the lake. His identity has not yet been released, and officials stated that his body was turned over to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.

This makes for the second missing kayaker in two weeks at Benbrook Lake. This comes just over a week after a tragic accident at the lake, where 18-year-old Boswell High School senior Luke Nickens went missing after his kayak capsized in strong winds. His body was recovered the following Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities, including Texas Game Wardens and Benbrook emergency personnel, are expected to provide updates on the current situation. Stay tuned for more details as this story develops.
