The Western Hills Cougars entered the new year with momentum from a two-game win streak, but that momentum has evaporated.
Back-to-back losses to the Dunbar Wildcats (54-38) and Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles (56-38) have left the Cougars with a 6-15 overall record and 1-3 in district play.
This recent skid had starkly contrasted with last February when the Cougars bested Diamond Hill-Jarvis 55-41. But last night’s rematch wasn’t as kind, with the Eagles taking full advantage of their home-court edge.
The Cougars will aim to stop their slide this Friday at 7:30 p.m. as they host the Southwest Raiders. History isn’t on Western Hills’ side—they’re 0-9 against Southwest since January 2015, including a crushing 64-28 loss in November 2022. But playing at home could tip the scales in their favor, provided the winter weather advisory doesn’t delay the action.
Southwest is on fire, boasting a 17-9 record after winning 10 of its last 12 games. Its offense has been dominant, averaging 61.2 points per game during that stretch. Southwest also rebounded strongly last week, winning decisively 56-31 over Diamond Hill-Jarvis.
Can the Cougars break the streak and claw their way to victory? Join us Friday night to find out and cheer them on!
