Western Hills High School hosted a big night for music as more than 450 students and 60 directors came together for the FWISD District High School Band Contest. It was a full-campus effort, and the Cougar Band made the most of their moment.

Eighteen Western Hills students auditioned for a place in the FWISD ATSSB High School Honor Ensemble, which will perform February 6โ€“7, 2026. Six earned a spot, with several more landing just a few chairs shy. From flute and French horn to trombone, euphonium, bass trombone, tuba, and percussion, Cougar musicians showed real talent and hard work.

But the night was about more than auditions. Cougar Band students helped set up rooms, monitored hallways, and stayed late to clean up, ensuring the event ran smoothly across every campus involved.

A special thanks goes to director Allison Whiddon, whose leadership helped guide both the performers and the entire contest operation. Teachers, custodial staff, and community support also played a key role in making the evening a success.

It was a proud showing for Western Hills and a potent reminder of the dedication behind the Cougar Band.
