If you ever wondered just how busy the Benbrook Public Library was in 2025, the numbers tell a pretty incredible story.

More than 2,100 new library cards were issued last year, averaging over 41 new welcomes each week. Altogether, Benbrook readers checked out 237,749 items, proof that stories, learning, and curiosity are alive and well in our community.

Adult readers gravitated toward powerful fiction like The Women and Remarkably Bright Creatures. At the same time, graphic novels dominated overall with My Hero Academia and One Piece leading the charge by a wide margin.

Nonfiction favorites reflected the times, with The Anxious Generation and Atomic Habits topping the list, alongside popular memoirs and biographies such as Hillbilly Elegy and Greenlights.

Kids kept the shelves buzzing too. Picture book favorites like Pete the Cat and Bluey stayed in constant rotation, while chapter book staples such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Big Nate remained go-to picks for young readers.

Print still ruled the stacks, accounting for just over 72 percent of all checkouts, but digital reading held strong as well, with nearly 66,000 borrowed items.

And it was not just books. The Library of Things proved to be a huge hit, with game systems, laser tag kits, and retro consoles among the most borrowed items of the year.

From easy readers to biographies, from graphic novels to game kits, Benbrook showed up in a big way for its library in 2025. And if last year was any indication, 2026 is shaping up to be just as busy.
