Bobcats Baseball Open Playoff Series with Dominant Win Over Bridgeport.

For a moment, it looked like North Texas weather might win the night.

Storm threats hovered over the Bi-District playoff series between the Benbrook High School Bobcats and the Bridgeport Bulls, forcing schedule adjustments and raising questions about whether postseason baseball would even take place on Wednesday in Boyd.

But once the first pitch was thrown, the Bobcats made it clear they were ready.

The Bobcats wasted little time getting on the board in Game 1. Recent Vernon College signee Hudson Stockton ripped a double to right field to score the game’s first run, followed moments later by an RBI single from Brennan Barton, a recent Austin College signee, to give the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead.

That was more than enough support for pitcher Chevy Martinez.

The Western Oklahoma State College signee turned in a dominant performance on the mound, striking out 15 batters while allowing just one hit and no runs across seven innings.

After the fast start, Benbrook’s offense cooled for a few innings before coming back to life in the fifth. Martinez helped spark the rally with a hard-hit ball to left field that moved Tanner Madara to third. Madara later scored on a wild pitch, and another Bridgeport miscue pushed the lead to 4-0.

Austin Cross added the final run of the night with a line drive to center field that brought Brennan Barton home, sealing a 5-0 Bobcats victory.

Stockton, Martinez-Colon, Barton, Madara, and Cross each recorded a hit for Benbrook, while Stockton, Barton, and Cross drove in runs.

The win pushes the Bobcats to 22-10-1 on the season and gives Benbrook a 1-0 lead in the playoff series as the team prepares to return to the field for Game 2 in Boyd this Friday.

There’s nothing like playoff baseball this time of year. The pressure builds, the weather turns unpredictable, and every inning suddenly feels bigger. Last night, the Bobcats looked ready for every bit of it, as we now get ready for game 2.
