Benbrook Youth Baseball Season Stalled by Rain, Field Closures Continue.

It’s been a soggy spring for Benbrook Youth Baseball and Softball Association (BYBSA), and the downpour doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. With field closures stacking up, this season has been more about rain delays than home runs.

As of now, all BYBSA fields are officially closed through tomorrow per the City of Benbrook. While the association helps coordinate schedules, final decisions on field conditions come straight from the city—especially when safety’s on the line. Even if a field looks dry on the surface, things like waterlogged clay, hidden saturation, or standing puddles can make play dangerous.

The city typically makes the call by 3:00 PM each day, but that timeline isn’t set in stone. Just last weekend, games were called off Saturday due to poor conditions but fields were reopened Sunday for a pre-planned tournament, a move that stirred mixed reactions from parents.

BYBSA says they support the city’s decision and appreciate the flexibility they’re granted, but want to remind everyone they’re doing their best with limited resources, volunteers, and infrastructure. Between Corps of Engineers regulations, daily public use of the fields, and ongoing weather issues, it’s not an easy diamond to manage.

Frustrated parents have voiced concerns—some calling for better communication, others considering reaching out to City Council—but BYBSA is asking for continued patience as they navigate a tough season and try to make fair decisions for all teams and families.
