Benbrook Public Library has been honored as one of over 130 libraries nationwide chosen to host digital literacy workshops.
The initiative, led by the Public Library Association (PLA) with a generous $2.7 million contribution from AT&T, highlights the library’s commitment to empowering residents with essential digital skills to thrive in today’s tech-driven world.
The workshops, which will begin in December 2024, will utilize DigitalLearn.org materials and offer engaging, practical courses on topics such as internet use, video conferencing, cybersecurity, and mobile device operation. These sessions aim to bridge the digital divide and equip participants with confidence in navigating technology.
Since 2022, PLA and AT&T have helped nearly 400 libraries host over 3,800 workshops, reaching more than 19,000 learners nationwide. Benbrook’s inclusion in this impactful program reflects its dedication to fostering community growth and accessibility.
PLA President Michael Lambert emphasized the importance of libraries in bridging the digital divide: “Public libraries are at the forefront of boosting digital literacy skills and providing vital technology resources to their communities.”
Residents are encouraged to participate in these workshops to gain valuable skills and unlock new opportunities. In addition to foundational knowledge, attendees can benefit from ongoing support through the Digital Navigator program, which offers personalized guidance on devices and connectivity.
