A mosquito collected in Benbrook has tested positive for West Nile virus, prompting overnight spraying in part of the city.
The City of Benbrook says crews will begin spraying around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, and finish by 6 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting. The treatment will cover roughly a half-mile radius around the 8200 block of Circle S Road and will remain within Benbrook city limits.
The general spray area stretches from Rush Street south to Llano Avenue and from Twilight Drive S east to Coates Circle.
The spraying follows confirmation from Tarrant County Public Health that a mosquito collected from one of the city’s testing traps was positive for West Nile virus.
According to the city, the amount of pesticide released from the truck is not harmful to people or pets, although residents may still want to limit exposure. Residents are also encouraged to empty standing water around their homes, use mosquito repellent, and take extra precautions outdoors between dusk and dawn.
