What started as a few weeks of cardboard, creativity, and engineering turned into a championship moment for Benbrook Middle-High School students.
On April 25, BMHS engineering students competed in the FWISD Cardboard Boat Regatta, taking on 9 other schools after spending nearly 3 weeks designing and building their own handmade boats from scratch.
When race day arrived, the Benbrook team did more than just stay afloat.
The students earned 1st Place in the Secondary Division and also took home the event’s Best in Show award for creativity, capping off an impressive day on the water.

The project challenged students to think through design, construction, teamwork, and problem-solving under pressure, all while creating something strong enough to survive the race itself.
Coach Spoon and the student team brought both engineering skill and imagination to the competition, and by the end of the regatta, Benbrook left with hardware and bragging rights.
