Benbrook, TX — The Bobcats are on the rise! After a standout weekend at the regional meet hosted by Texas Tech University, two Benbrook Middle-High School students are officially heading to the UIL State Competition.
Kourtney Brown secured her spot with a second-place finish in Editorial Writing, while Ayodeji Taiwo punched his ticket with a third-place performance in Spelling. Both students will represent BMHS at the state meet in Austin on May 19–20.
Seniors Piper Archer and Kourtney Brown also made waves, placing fourth in Literary Criticism and News Writing respectively, earning alternate spots. Ayodeji Taiwo finished fifth in Literary Criticism, making him the next alternate in line. The Literary Criticism team, which also featured juniors Ashley Gevedon and Amy Gonzalez, clinched second place overall—an impressive team effort.
This year marks a big milestone for BMHS, doubling the number of students advancing to state compared to previous years. A total of 23 Bobcats competed across a range of academic events, from debate to science to poetry, showing off the depth and dedication of Benbrook’s young talent.
A big shoutout goes to the coaches—Samuel De Valdenebro, Tiffany Giddens, Jamie Krempa, Yenifer Morales, Ryan Peterson, Jared Spoon, Steven Todoroff, and Wade Veillon—and to Coach Wade Cribbs, who kept everything rolling smoothly in Lubbock.
Benbrook, it’s time to cheer on your Bobcats as they head to Austin to finish what they started!
