As spring settles in, many Benbrook residents are stepping outside, noticing what needs attention, and making plans to fix it. From yard work to larger home upgrades, this time of year often brings a fresh wave of projects.
Along with that momentum comes an important reminder from the city. Not every project starts with tools. Some start with a permit.
Benbrook officials are encouraging residents to stay on top of routine lawn care to help prevent pests and hazards. At the same time, they are reminding homeowners that many common upgrades require approval before work begins.
Projects like plumbing, electrical, or HVAC work, including water heater replacements, require permits.
The same is true for home additions, garage conversions, storage buildings, patio covers, and carports. Driveways, window and door replacements, solar panels, pools, hot tubs, fences, and retaining walls also require permits through the city.
It is an easy step to overlook, especially with smaller projects, but it can save time, money, and potential setbacks down the road.

Spring is a great time to improve your home. Taking care of the details before you begin helps ensure the work gets done right the first time.
