A Benbrook Family’s Service Story Inspires a Community.

A simple photo shared by Benbrook resident Chico Solis sparked a wave of encouragement across town this week. In it, he stands with his two sons, both proudly serving in the United States Navy. For Chico, the moment carried the weight of a family journey that began long before the uniforms.

He reflected on what it means to see his youngest complete a full year as a Gunner’s Mate and to watch his oldest graduate as a Boatswain’s Mate on November 20.

As the son of Mexican immigrants who went on to earn three college degrees and serve twenty-one years on active duty, Chico sees his sons’ accomplishments as both personal and deeply American. Their service represents hard work, gratitude for opportunity, and a commitment to something bigger than themselves.

Residents responded with warmth and admiration, celebrating the family’s legacy and thanking the young men for choosing a path of duty and discipline. Many recognized how powerful it is to witness service carried from one generation to the next, especially from a family that built its future through sacrifice and perseverance.

In a season when stories of unity and purpose mean a little more, this one stood out. It reminded Benbrook that patriotism is often shaped quietly at home, long before anyone steps onto a ship, base, or training field. And it showed the community what pride looks like when it is earned through generations.
